Desk Report:
Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer (northern region) of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has said that people’s trust in the interim government is decreasing because it is showing weakness at every place.
He made this comment in response to questions from journalists at a press conference at a hotel conference room in East Zindabazar area of Sylhet city on Wednesday (September 24) night.
When asked about the incident of egg pelting on NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain in New York, Sarjis said, “It is a completely unexpected and expected incident and a shameful incident for Bangladesh and the interim government. The interim government has taken representatives of three political parties with them; they should have had a clear idea of what protocol they can take them from where and where. If they cannot, it was necessary to ensure security with them at every place. But they have put the leaders of this major political party of Bangladesh in such an embarrassing situation. Which is shameful not only for us, but for Bangladesh and for all of them, including the head of the government. We have seen before, Mahfuz Alam, advisor to the interim government, who is there as a student representative. Such an unwanted incident happened to him.’
The press conference was attended by Jatiya Nagorik Party Central Joint Member Secretary Pritam Das and various levels of Sylhet district and metropolitan NCP leaders. Later, Sarjis Alam joined the coordination meeting of Sylhet district, metropolitan and upazila leaders and gave important directions.
